About Me (and All My Gloriously Imperfect Chaos)
Hi! I’m Karen—writer, puzzle book maker, special needs mama, and coffee-fueled chaos coordinator. If you’re into real talk, honest stories, and the occasional typo, you’re in the right place.

What I Do (Besides Reheat My Coffee Four Times)
I create low-content books like journals, activity books, and puzzle books—designed to make life a little easier (or at least more fun). My work lives under a few pen names, depending on the project and the vibe:
- Lexi Searchwell – Word searches, puzzle books, and mental wellness fun
- Mrs. Penny Count – Kindergarten math books, early learning tools, and playful numbers
- Karen Davis Matthews – The real-life behind-the-scenes version of it all
Why I Started This Whole Bookish Adventure
It all started when I couldn’t find a communication logbook for my child with Down syndrome… so I made one.
Then I made another.
I realized other families, teachers, and caregivers needed the same kind of support—so I kept creating. One book turned into a series, a brand, and a mission to make life a little easier (and sometimes a little sillier) for others too.
What Keeps Me Going
I believe in celebrating small wins, sharing the messy middle, and creating tools that help people feel just a little more supported. Whether it’s a puzzle book, a kids’ activity, or a Facebook post that says, ‘Hey, I get it’—this is my way of showing up and giving back.
A Personal Note from Me to You
I’m not a big-name influencer. I’m just a regular person trying to figure it all out—juggling life, family, caregiving, and the chaos in between with a coffee in one hand and hope in the other. I make books during nap time, after bedtime, and sometimes in between reheating dinner and untangling a sock mystery.
If something I’ve created helps you feel seen, supported, or even just makes you smile for a minute—then every typo, spilled mug, and late-night Canva session was totally worth it. This space is a little messy, a lot honest, and filled with heart. I’m so glad you’re here.
With gratitude and caffeine,
Karen☕💛
